Why two systems?or cognitive assessment we use the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. This dates from the 1930s, but is now in its 4th iteration. It is the scale used by many of the world’s high-IQ societies to determine eligibility. It has a powerful analytical capability to isolate your strengths and weaknesses in thinking and problem solving.
To gain insight into your personality we use Cattell’s 16 personality factor analysis, which tests for personality traits such as dominance and openness to challenges. The analytical and explanatory power of the 16PF is very valuable for career consultation; and will help you understand yourself.
These analytical tools help us determine which careers might suit you. We consider these the best tools available for career counselling. They provide the best insights into your personality and aptitude, and into how you can turn your strengths into effective life skills.
We combine these tools with an in depth interview conducted by leading psychologist Philip Wolfers, one of Sydney’s most experienced career counsellors. The interview is carefully designed, and notes are taken at each stage, to provide the basis for the second phase of the process.
Following the assessment phase, we offer an extensive debriefing session during which we will discuss the results of the tests, answer your questions and address everything of interest arising from the interview. We then help you develop an action plan to take you, step by step, towards your chosen career.
Generally, this process takes around four hours in total. Around three hours are spent in the assessment, followed by about an hour for the debriefing. We suggest you set aside a day, however, allowing you to take a break after the assessment and return refreshed for the debrief/planning phase.
