If you are looking for the support of an educational psychologist in the Lower North Shore for a particularly talented son or daughter, you need the help of a practice that specialises in the psychology of the exceptionally gifted child.
At the Advancement Centre one of Sydney’s most respected educational psychologists, Philip Wolfers,
provides an assessment procedure designed to identify the full range of a child’s abilities and gifts.
We use only those tests Philip considers to have proven predictive ability - the Wechsler Intelligence Scale
for Children and the Stanford Binet Intelligence Scales.
Assessments are available for children aged 4 and over. Younger children can be tested also, if necessary,
especially if you are looking at ‘early entry’ to school.
Our assessment will tell you:
- If your child is specially gifted
- If so, in which areas
- Our recommendations for the future care of your child
When you suspect that your child has exceptional gifts, it’s important that you understand clearly their nature and extent. By specialising in the psychology of the gifted child, and by adhering to rigorously proven metrication systems, Philip Wolfers can give you the insight into your child’s potential you need to help him realise it.
Located in Crows Nest, the Advancement Centre includes educational psychologists trained to assess all aspects of a child’s educational and social progress. We conduct the majority of assessments at the centre, and our many years of experience in child psychology mean we know how to put children at their ease. For most of our kids, their encounter with educational psychology is a great way to have some variety away from school! Usually, they also enjoy the challenge and one-on-one attention very much. If preferred, we can also arrange to assess a child at school.
Beyond Assessment
As well as guiding you as to the extent of your child’s gifts and how best to cultivate them,
the Advancement Centre provides other support services, such as endorsing, with supporting
documentation, appeals to the public education authorities for an adapted curriculum to meet the needs of a
gifted child.
And of course we can support applications for one of the scarce places in
an OC or selective school.
